Mljet is for many tourists one of the islands lost in the sea. Mljet is an island that is actually hard to reach. Don’t allow that this island, which is mentioned in stories about Odyssey, St Paul, Benedictines and Mediterranean sea bears remain unknown to you. Mljet appears as a long straight island, 34 km wide and 37 km long. Mljet is an island of specific characteristics and contrasts, National Park Mljet occupies its north western part, and it stretches over 5375 hectares of sheltered coast and sea. In this National Park these are two deep bays, which because of very narrow channels with sea are called lakes. Mljet has very long history and the most important is the Benedictine monastery founded in 12 century on the small island in the middle of the lake-bay.
